An introduction to marketing
Ahead of starting University to study Bachelor of Arts in Marketing I joined ADS Agency UK for shadowing and participating in marketing activity. Early on I got to experience working in a co-working space outside of London, and meeting other business owners. I benefitted from introducing myself and my role with and the work of the agency. It was informative to find out current challenges of small businesses. As it was during the summer we worked on the rooftop part of the time.
Data mining
I was involved in a data mining and data analysis project. From a reputable source I collected live data. It was a challenging project as the team had to figure out ways to present complex data. In addition I prepared the first draft of the presentation. I learnt a lot about data projects and how to best convey insights. Separately I worked on outbound marketing. I experienced researching, scripting and delivering a small outbound campaign and tracking its results . I was hesitant at first but within days became much more comfortable.
Looking ahead
With the end of the shadowing in sight, my last few day were spent wrapping up. I transferred documentation, finished tasks and on the last day rain spoilt our planned outdoor picnic. However I'd I worked on promotional campaigns of two clients - working closely to help them attract new customers. It was interesting to find out the challenges and brainstorm solutions. I even got a little thank-you gift from one. I also received a Certificate of Achievement from the Agency in recognition of my collaborative work. I'm leaving with a good understanding of how difficult marketing can be and that through preparedness and relationship building help find workable solutions.
